A Note From Wendy at Haus of Stitches in Humboldt:

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped us launch this project, the countless hours that volunteers have given of their time to help us collect, record and finish quilts and tops. The response from the quilting community around the world has been truly overwhelming and amazing, not only with quilts but with your kind words and support.

As the days passed the numbers affected by this tragedy grew till we were well beyond our initial estimate of 200 quilts. Now that we have had a chance to accurately determine the number of quilts needed, and calculated the number of quilts that have arrived, along with the ones that we know are on their way to us, we are confident in our ability to achieve this goal.

Please continue to finish up any quilts that you have started and send them to us here in Humboldt by May 18th or sooner. If you have not yet started a quilt, we kindly ask that you turn your generous and charitable efforts to other groups in need such as the Toronto Attack or other groups in your community in need of support.

We still have work to do assembling and quilting the tops we have received before we can distribute them. Any help finishing these is greatly appreciated. The guilds in our area have been outstanding with their support and assistance in this project. Please keep a watch on [the Quilts for Broncos Facebook] page as distribution will begin in the coming weeks.

Deadline:

The deadline for blocks/tops/quilts to be received in Humboldt was Friday May 18th.

Donations:

Donations of fabric, batting, backing, thread, or monetary donations toward these items, are greatly appreciated and should be sent to Haus of Stitches in Humboldt.

Haus of Stitches is now able to accept monetary donations over the phone. The shop phone number is (306) 682-0772. Any fund left over from quilt related expenses will be donated to the Broncos.

    • Hi Jessica, fully assembled quilts are gratefully accepted! The Humboldt quilters will put their special label on every quilt, even those that arrive finished. Thanks so much!

      • Hi Jen, Yes, everyone is making by donation. Some people are sending finished quilts, some are sending quilt tops and some are sending blocks. We appreciate it all! The quilt tops and blocks will need to be finished. This will involve expenses for backing, batting and thread to quilt with. As you can imagine with a lot of quilts, the expenses could really add up for the Humboldt quilters. While they are accepting donations of these items, monetary donation is easy and is also a great way for non-quilters to be involved with the quilt drive. As I said, we appreciate it all! Thanks.

    • Hi Tracey, great question. Not every colour needs to appear in each block but the Humboldt quilters really want the team colours to come through in the overall quilt. Thanks so much!

Like others, I would love to see some of the quilt tops. As a note, I do not do instagram (as I am sure many others do not) … and why we would appreciate seeing pics uploaded to your site, or perhaps another site.

  4. I’d like to make a few blocks. I understand you want these colors in these sizes arranged any way we want. I can’t tell from my computer whether the third small square is black or dark green. On Instagram, looks like some people have interpreted it as black and others green. I don’t want to send in the wrong kind of block, so would love some clarification. Thanks!

  5. My mom and I will be making blocks in Fort St. John, BC. I am willing to do some long arm quilting if there are any folks nearby (NE BC or NW Alberta) that want to send finished tops or supply, backing, batting, binding, etc.

  6. I am offering to longarm quilt if someone or the organization sends me the 5-10 quilt tops. I am also willing to supply the batting and backing up to 10 quilts and I will bind the ones I long arm quilt. It would be an honor. And I’ll send them back to you.

  34. This is a wonderful project and I am so happy to participate. I will assemble as many blocks as I can. My only concern is the gold colour. I have variations of gold and hope it will be okay. My worry is that perhaps what I may have perceived as gold might have tones of yellow. Thank you for allowing me to participate. Love and hugs to Humboldt from Estevan.
