July 2023 Meeting Review

The Saskatoon MQG met on July 23rd in Buena Vista park. We skipped the usual education topic in exchange for some visiting, and to leave time to gratefully accept fabric and book donations from Bev. There is still more than a month before September. For our icebreaker, we shared things we could try out this summer. Here are some suggestions: Wolf Willow Wines for dinner and/or camping, The Popoff Tree, Prairie Lily, paddle boarding/canoing/kayaking on the river, Rosthern Lil Bean Ice Cream and a walk downtown, Berry Barn, Big River area, Lake Tobin, and Wakaw Wheatland Express. Or just go for a walk and see how many different wild flowers you can identify. Barb found 22 different kinds on her walk!

There was lots of eye candy (see below for a sampling). A fun fact that many of us didn’t know is that Karen Nyberg was the first to astronaut to quilt in space and she has a fabric line. If anyone is interested in improving their improv skills, there is still time to join “30 days of improv Quilt Along” with Shannon Fraser Designs.

Our next gathering is for the quilt show in Buena Vista park on AUGUST 20th. It is always so much fun. Please arrive far enough in advance of 2:00 that you have time to display your pieces. Bring rope, stands, etc. as everyone is responsible for hanging their own work. We will start taking everything down by 4:00.
