June 23rd 2013 Meeting

Yesterday we showed off the results of our ‘Make it Modern’ challenge, saw our first completed charity quilt and shared even more great finishes! We don’t have a lot of business over the summer months and we are taking a little breather from challenges.

Our next challenge is: ‘Inspired By…’. We are asking our members to make a quilt that is inspired by a movie, book, piece of art or music. We want the finished project to mean something to you and so we are giving lots of time to make something really great. The deadline is September 29th, and we’d love to hear the stories that go with the quilts at that meeting.

Here are the finishes from our most recent challenge to take a traditional block or idea and put a modern spin on it.

May 26th 2013 Meeting

A week (and a bit) ago we had our May meeting and I’m just finally getting around to posting the photos.

We started with a little guild business, finalized numbers for the UK swap to come in the fall, talked about upcoming tutorial/focus ideas and we announced a really fun new challenge! See the newsletter (coming out this weekend or early next week) for full details.

After all the guild business, Bev gave us a great tutorial on slashing, and we got to admire all her wonderful projects. Here is one that we were all especially in awe of:

Afterwards we did a little show and tell:

And we finished off by sharing our charity blocks. Patti donated all this wonderful fabric and we are going to use it to make charity quilts (details to come in the newsletter). Just look at all the blocks we made (and a few are missing from people who couldn’t make the meeting):

Shout out to Julie who made more blocks than I can even count!

Thanks again for such a wonderful meeting. Can’t wait to see you all next month.
