Happy International Quilting Weekend!

March 21 happens to be International Quilting Day. Our SMQG meeting was held on Sunday the 22nd and so we declared the celebration to be a weekend…. And brought cake! Who doesn’t love a little rainbow flying geese to celebrate this great Art?!

We kicked off our meeting by sharing the progress on the travelling quilts. Jaclyn created this improv pebble to add to Carly’s “pebbles on the beach” quilt.

Sonya made some adorable shamrocks to add to Jaclyn’s seasonal themed quilt.

Lisa made log cabins for Sonya’s citrus sangria quilt.

Heather created these cute little houses for Julie’s neighbourhood quilt.

Show and tell was very colourful with ladies showing their rainbow mini swap items.

Nicole could enter her latest quilt top in the Michael Miller fabric challenge!

Patti has been busy pattern testing. Love these pieces!

Sonya has started not one, but 2 of the Pile of Fabric Skill Builder BOM quilts!

Catherine is practicing her paper piecing. Can’t wait to see this one completed! (I have a weakness for rainbow geese!)

Lisa shared a lovely mini that she made for a swap and the bag that she made to take to Quilt Con! The bag literally does have a place for everything – just like its name!

Our next meeting will be Sunday April 26th, 2:00pm at the Saskatoon Field House. We look forward to seeing you there! And don’t forget your show and tell and completed challenge pieces. We want to see what masterpieces you’ve made with the orphaned fat quarters.

FQ swap

We had a cozy little meeting on February 22nd. Three of our gals were at Quiltcon in Austin, TX! I’m excited to hear all about their trip next meeting.

We got right into the traveling quilts. I had Jaclyn’s season-themed quilt and made a circle of hearts and a heart arrow for it.

Sonya had Heather’s zodiac/birth sign-themed quilt and made a beautiful clamshell block that included a pig for the Chinese year of the pig.

Carly had Bev’s improv tree quilt and made two cute blocks.

For show and tell, Stephanie showed us her sew together bag, her rainbow mini for a rainbow mini swap a few of us are in, and a baby quilt she is working on.

Sonya was wearing the beautiful dress she made out of Alison Glass handcrafted.

Angie showed a wonky 9 patch she did with her daughter.

And Nicole showed us a baby quilt she is near completing.

We swapped some of our least favorite fat quarters with the challenge of making something amazing. Watch out for the April blog post where we see what everyone came up with!

Our next meeting will be March 22nd at 2:00 pm at the Fieldhouse. We look forward to seeing you all!
