November 2024 Meeting

The next meeting is November 24,2024.

Members, please check your email for the Zoom link. We still have a November meeting planned, with the option of a Sew Day at Home Inn and Suites (253 Willis Crescent). Please only go in person if you can get there safely in this snowstorm! Check your email for a zoom meeting link as that is how the meeting will be run.

If you want, Come and Go from 9 am to 8 pm (free for members) with a Lunch Break at 12 pm and Meeting from 2 to 4 pm., we will still pay for the hotel room. The education topic involves revealing our Word and Box Top challenge projects , and it will be a group share. It will be fun to learn why people picked their words and how we creatively used the colours on the boxes we picked. Also come prepared to share your favourite batting in the Icebreaker. It would be great if you could show us a sample.

Please RSVP for the sew day to Donna via the email sent to members (please hit reply and do not use “reply to all”). Members that are only able to attend the meeting should connect to Zoom by 2 p.m. We will also be holding elections for a new Co-Chair. Don’t be afraid to attend because of that as Laura is willing to take on that role and she should be fantastic based on all of the inspiration she has brought to our group.

Our remaining meeting is Dec. 15 and we will have an optional gift exchange. The dates in 2025 are also reserved and the dates, including Tuesdays in the summer, and they are as follows: Jan. 26, Feb. 23, Mar 23 and 24 (retreat), April 27, May 25, June 17 (Tues), July 15 (Tues), Aug. 12 (Tues), Sept. 28, Oct. 26, Nov .16 (Nov 23 not available), and Dec.21 (t.b.c. as we are trying to move this date earlier).

October 27, 2024 Meeting Review

We met at Home Inn and Suites. Since our education topic was circles and curves, I kicked things off with an icebreaker question: “What type of thread do you use for piecing?” The response was lively, turning into an impromptu lesson on thread and needle tips—definitely an education topic of its own!

For our group share, we focused on curves and circles, with members bringing quilts that showcased various techniques. We saw projects using rulers, like the Starry Night pattern with the Wonder Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful and the Crazy Curve Acrylic template from Elisa’s Backporch Design. Other techniques included using freezer paper templates, the double wedding ring, improv curves, strips and curves, and a section from Sugaridoo’s Between the Lines Quilt Along.

Looking ahead, November 24th’s education topic will be a sharing of our word and box challenge projects, so please come ready for show and tell! If you’d like to join the homemade gift exchange on December 15, now’s a great time to start preparing. We’ll also welcome snacks to enjoy together.
