April Meeting Cancellation

During Covid-19, it isn’t all bad out there. It is time to celebrate spring. And Charlene (our Chair) is proud Mom to a new baby girl on April 17th. To our members, keep posting on Instagram as those photos are so uplifting. We sure miss our get-togethers. April is cancelled too but just think of it as a few more hours to work on those projects to share at the next show-and-tell.

And some other good news. Michelle from Saskatoon Longarm Studio quilted the mental health charity quilt. She was so generous and contributed her time for it. Check out these photos to see the amazing detail. And to get a sneak peak of the binding by Bev.

A photo of the unquilted top was published in the Spring 2020 issue of the Canadian Quilter magazine by the Canadian Quilters’ Association. The theme was Empowering Words. If you have the issue, it is on page 12 and a scan is shown below. Bev Drew was so generous both to design the quilt, and then to teach us how to do improv letters so we could all contribute. This quilt shows the potential hidden in our stashes. It might look like scraps and odds and ends. But is it really?

When we do gather again in person, it is going to be fun to compare notes on new resources. The MQG site has been offering interesting webinars so watch your emails. A challenge is for each of us to post one new resource via Instagram this month. Our hashtags are #saskatoonmqg or #covidquiltssaskatoonmqg

March 2020 Meeting Cancellation

In consideration of the COVID-19 virus, we have cancelled our meeting for next Sunday, March 22nd. We are acting out of a sense of responsibility to our members and our greater community. Be prepared on April 25th for our in-person sew day at Stonebridge Home Inn and Suites. But we are thinking ahead in case this continues for another month.

If April doesn’t happen too, we are planning for an instagram SEW-tacular day where we share our current sewing projects. Also, Bev is dreaming up a wonderful improv triangles challenge. So happy sewing in preparation for show-and-tell in April! And if you need inspiration, remember the on-line resources included with your membership at: https://www.themodernquiltguild.com/ . We suggest to stay a step ahead of Bev and search for something triangular this month!

In the meantime, share what your sewing and keep connected on Instagram using the hashtags #saskatoonmqg or #covidquiltssaskatoonmqg

Please wash your hands, stay well, and we hope to see you in person or virtually soon! Let’s make sure we support one another as this situation continues to evolve.
