We hope you enjoyed your holidays and have settled back into things now that the new year is well under way. Our first meeting of the year is tomorrow and we have lots of exciting things to talk about for the upcoming year. We hope to see you all there!

It’s been a while, but here is a recall of November’s meeting. We started with our traveling quilt trade off. Before the blocks switched hands we did a little show and tell. The blocks are looking good!

We then had Lisa discuss design principles.

Finally we had show and tell. We have some incredibly talented quilters among us!

October brought with it sunshine and warmth, the changing colours of the leaves, and our Guild Meeting!

After the business, Bev was kind enough to provide us with a tutorial on free motion quilting. This is one of those skills that you just can never have enough practice or instruction about. And Bev’s skills are honed to perfection. It was a honour to learn from her!

This quilt is one of my favourites of Bev’s quilts. This is a memorial quilt for her father, and in the winding pathways, she has written out key points of his life with her quilting! It’s fantastic! I realized that I was too busy admiring it that I didn’t take a close up view, but it is magnificent! A quilt to treasure always.

Remember Carly’s super weird green bug? The one she made into a quilt block?? If you’ve forgotten, you can check it out here.. Well folks, she’s done it again! She’s taken inspiration from the street she drives down every day on her way home. If you know the city well, it’s Lenore Drive, right by Marion M. Graham Collegiate. The school is flanked by massive trees with brightly coloured leaves. She turned the beauty of her drive home into another spectacular mini!

And then everyone’s favourite part – SHOW AND TELL!!

Bev had been dying fabric!

Carly made a quilt top with the help of her bee mates.

Tarra and Kim pieced some magnificent mini’s!

Sheila made a box pouch, with cross stitched quilt blocks on the front.

And Nicole has been playing with curves! And doing a mighty fine job!

The Saskatoon Modern Quilt Guild is also participating in the charity quilt drive for QuiltCon2015. We have chosen some fabrics, following the palate requested by the Modern Quilt Guild, and left instructions to make blocks that have HST’s in them. Some of the blocks have been rolling in! Stay tuned for more progress on our group charity project.
