Although it was officially summer (and still is for another 17 days!), the rain and cool temperatures on our meeting day sure was a taste of fall! What better to do on a rainy day than hang out with quilty friends? We welcomed a few new faces, and faces of friends who we hadn’t seen a while. A full house! Thanks to all who made it!
The challenge for August was to make something with a new interfacing or batting that you hadn’t tried before. Back in June, Michelle of Periwinkle Quilting (where we hold our Sunday meetings) gave us a fantastic presentation on all of the different interfacing and batting that she carries in the store! She made a binder with tabs to organize and samples to check out. Next time you are in the store, be sure to check out the binder! Everyone was mesmerized by the talent of our guild members, so a few items were missed in photography. Carly made a very fashionable vest, and Lisa put together a gorgeous Super Tote. Jaclyn made this adorable little basket with tiny pattern weights for our new friend in Edmonton.
Patti made a Weekender! (And owes a few dollars to the swear jar!)
And I made this diaper clutch for my newest nephew, Sawyer. (Don’t worry, the rotary cutter will come out before I give it away).
On to the show and tell! I missed the July meeting where the make modern borders challenge was due, so I brought that challenge piece to show (although I held it upside down)!
I also brought Sawyer’s quilt and a mini that I made for the same Edmonton friend (it was her birthday).
Patti showed off this magnificent quilt made with HRT’s!
Lisa’s Glimma quilt; still one of my favourite fabric lines!
Flo shared this quilt top with us – what a great piece!
Michelle showed us a lovely alphabet quilt.
Bev brought another masterpiece to share!
And our other Patty brought in a magnificent top she’s been working on!
Our presentation for the month was delivered by the ever talented Ms. Carly, our resident teacher! She’s opened our eyes to exploring the world around us and finding quilt design inspiration in the most unlikely of places!
She also came across this peculiar little bug…
…. and was inspired to make this!
Our next informal meeting will be held on Wednesday September 10, location TBD. September’s meeting is on Sunday the 28th, 2:00 in the downstairs studio of Periwinkle. It’ll be a busy one! We have our secret mini swaps to reveal. The challenge due is to use value in a piece, following Jaclyn’s July presentation. And we will be starting our traveling quilts this month. So be sure to bring your starting block if you’d like to be included in the fun!!
Members, watch your email for the location of Wednesday’s meeting, and we hope to see you all at our next Sunday meeting! Bring a friend! And we’ll bring more chairs!!
Cheers!
