October 27, 2024 Meeting Review

We met at Home Inn and Suites. Since our education topic was circles and curves, I kicked things off with an icebreaker question: “What type of thread do you use for piecing?” The response was lively, turning into an impromptu lesson on thread and needle tips—definitely an education topic of its own!

For our group share, we focused on curves and circles, with members bringing quilts that showcased various techniques. We saw projects using rulers, like the Starry Night pattern with the Wonder Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful and the Crazy Curve Acrylic template from Elisa’s Backporch Design. Other techniques included using freezer paper templates, the double wedding ring, improv curves, strips and curves, and a section from Sugaridoo’s Between the Lines Quilt Along.

Looking ahead, November 24th’s education topic will be a sharing of our word and box challenge projects, so please come ready for show and tell! If you’d like to join the homemade gift exchange on December 15, now’s a great time to start preparing. We’ll also welcome snacks to enjoy together.

October 2024 Meeting

The next meeting is October 27,2024.

We have an exciting October meeting planned, which includes both a Sew Day and Regular Meeting at Home Inn and Suites (253 Willis Crescent). Come and Go from 9 am to 8 pm (free for members) with a Lunch Break at 12 pm and Meeting from 2 to 4 pm. The education topic is circles and curves, and it will be a group share. Bring any blocks, quilts, table runners, bags, or other projects you’ve pieced with circles and curves to share and inspire us!

Please RSVP for the sew day to Sherry via the email sent to members. Members that are only able to attend the meeting should arrive by 2 p.m. Try to remember to bring your name tags! For those that are new, we encourage our members to wear their own stitched name tags. Also, please bring your Fall coloured “Saskatoon Star” squares from Terry Rowand’s workshop if you plan to contribute to the charity quilt.

We hope you are working away on your Word and Box challenges. Those projects will both be revealed in November. Also in November, we will have elections. Donna must step down from the Co-Chair position as per by-laws.
