April 2021 Meeting Review

The Saskatoon MQG met on April 25th for another virtual meeting. Today was the reveal for the post card challenge. The bird pattern shown will be circulated to members. This was sketched with a drawing software so the paper pieced pattern is to scale at 4″ x 6″. Some postcards were all fabric, others incorporated cardstock, and several different types of batting were used. Such a fun way to use up scraps of fabric. And keep going with these because the idea of mailing them to each other has been proposed.

This challenge has inspired us. So start planning for our “Negative Space Challenge” with the reveal in August. The only rule is that the finished project is 8.5″x11″. We sure hope the reveal will be in person so that we can admire the stitching. It will be fun to see how we each interpret the meaning of negative space. Our next meeting is on May 30th so as to avoid the long weekend. Nancy is going to present on her journey to discovering what modern quilting is as inspired by the local library and internet searching.

Our ice breaker was to bring a favourite quilting resource. Excellent resources to consider on those rainy days under Covid-19 lockdown include trying free tutorials such as those offered by quiltingismytherapy.com (note that their kits offer great value). Or perhaps a quilt-along by a creator like thesecleverhands.com.au (support is given through purchasing the pattern). Or keep going with postcards and check out #postcardquiltwip for inspiration. And support local by attending Haus of Stitches virtual “Saskatchewan Stitches Conference” from May 28 to June 5, 2021. See saskstitches.ca. Happy sewing until we meet again next month.
