March 2024 Retreat

The retreat is March 23 & 24.

We are having a sew retreat on March 23, 24 at Queen’s House for those that already registered. There will be a white elephant table if you would like to try to get rid of anything quilting related. If no one takes it, remember to take it home.

Thank you to the planning committee who is making it all happen. On Saturday, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. On Sunday, breakfast and lunch are included. Doors open at 7:30. Please bring fat quarters for the draw. Also, bring five 10″ squares with the colour them of spring for poker.

We will be back with a regular sew day in April!

February 25, 2024 Meeting Review

The Saskatoon MQG gathered on February 25 for a productive sew day at Home Inn & Suites in Stonebridge. Our education topic was rulers and this was run as a group share. Here are some of the basics to specialty rulers we brought or talked about: Twister, Split Recs, Triangle Square Up Ruler, Hex N More, 2.5”x8”, Blocloc 0.5” Square Triange, Blocloc Flying Geese, Wing Clipper, 6.5” square, Free Motion Quilting Rulers, Stripology Ruler, 8.5”x4.5”, 24”x6”, Companion Angle, Quick Curve Ruler, 12.5”x12.5”, Split Seconds, Tumbler Block, Clammy 12”, and Easy Angle. Interesting conversations emerged around whether it is cheating or necessary to have so many rulers when a piece of cardboard or freezer paper work just fine for a template. Also, suggestions included Grippy spray for the back, or slip and grip types of stick ons.

Next month we will have our retreat on March 23 and 24. Send Margaret the form and money if interested. Final day for membership registration is February 29, 2024. If you delay, your spot might be given away as we can only accept up to 35 members due to space restrictions. We are running our word challenge until the reveal in November, and today the ugly fabric challenge kicked off. Don’t forget to save a box top if you would like to participate in the colour challenge that will start in April. As usual, there was so much eye candy.

For April, our education topic will be bindings. If you have any quilts with unique bindings to share, please bring those!
