May 2026 Meeting Review

We met at Home Inn & Suites on May 24, 2026. This is our last meeting until September. There are sew days scheduled on June 16, July 21 and August 18 but a minimum number of participants is required to keep it. You will have a separate email confirming the cost and RSVP details soon. And don’t forget our quilts in the park on August 23, 2026.

For education, we first started a group share with Elizabeth, Linda S-K, Teresa, Sherry, and Lorna sharing about their One Block Wonders. Elizabeth shared the One-Block Wonder Panel Quilts book by Maxine Rosethal and Nancy Miller. Then we talked about Serendipity Stacking such as described in this video by Marci Baker: https://quiltwithmarcibaker.com/serendipity-stacking/ .

The quilts need 6 layers to create the hexi’s so if using panels, that means you need 7 if you want to include the panel in the quilt. Elizabeth doubled that so had 14 for the quilt she made (1st quilt shown). For the traditional method, you need 6 repeats in the yardage. You could use a border fabric too. You will need a template to cut the triangles, and each hexi can be made 3 different ways. So definitely a design wall is required for auditioning.  There is a website: https://oneblockwonder.com/ where fabric can be auditioned. Finally, there is another similar 4-patch wonder block using squares instead of hexigons. Here is a website for that: https://firstlightdesigns.com/the-last-4-patch-wonder-blocks/

The next group share was on embelishments. There were a couple of other book shares including Beyond Crazy Quilts by Christen Brown, and Quilt & Embelish in One Step! by Linda Potter. Here is a bit more eye candy.

Some are working on the quilt medallion challenge and a few quilts in progress and finished are shown here.

Finally, here are some more amazing shares. This includes dreamlines, recycled, landscape challenges and more. Remember to keep working on these, and the faces challenge, over the summer. Also, here is a video I made on linking quilting to geology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3ms3NjqYzI&t=282s

In the Fall, please bring any finished quilts from past challenges including Dreamlines, improv curves, medallians, landscapes and faces. The remaining meeting dates for the year are June 16, July 21, August 18, September 27, October 25, November 22, and December 13. Have a wonderful summer!
